The artist staged pageants to highlight everyday people selected through open calls on radio and street posters. She worked within the pageant culture traditions while subverting it, choosing winners at random.
The paintings are influenced by the artistic traditions of France and Spain as well as Haiti's religious tradition and local crafts.
