Artisan friends Christiane Gautrot, Yves Coueslant, and Desmond Knox-Leet opened their shop in 1961, selling a mélange of home goods inspired by their travels in the Near East and the Mediterranean. In 1963, self-taught perfumer Desmond Knox-Leet and his partners created their renowned Diptyque scented candle, inspired by their eclectic, avant-garde fabric designs. Diptyque’s signature candle along with a fragrance line launched in 1968 and has built a cult following over the past 40 years, establishing Diptyque as one of the foremost fragrance brands in the world.
